The Road Race discipline is the top tier division in motorsport competition in the BC region, and around the world. Road racing is motorsport racing held on a paved closed circuit with both left and right turns and is typically run on purpose-built race tracks (called road courses) or on temporary circuits, such as closed-off airport runways and public roads, typically street circuits.
In the CACC region, which encompasses all of British Columbia, road racing events are held primarily at Mission Raceway Park in Mission, BC. The legendary Sports Car Club of BC (SCCBC) is the principal host club for the province’s road racing events and has been performing this role since its inauguration in 1951.
Joining the CACC race discipline as a senior race driver is typically done by taking a race driver training course, such as that offered by the SCCBC, and participating in the novice race driver program. Experienced racers from other jurisdictions and kart racers are eligible for an expedited pathway to a senior race license.
The CACC also welcomes participation in the race discipline in other ways. Those interested in race day officiating roles such as race stewarding, turn-working or course marshaling can join the discipline through the Motorsport and Emergency Turnworkers Association (META). The host club Sports Car Club of BC (SCCBC) also welcomes volunteers to help with a variety of tasks including registration and member management.
