Officiating in Motorsports

Becoming a motorsport official is the best way of getting close to the action without being in the drivers seat. Volunteer officials are a vital part of motorsport and without them, motorsports could not function. Officials ensure that events are conducted safely, fairly and that the rules and regulations are upheld.

Each and every motorsport event requires a certain number of officials with various skills to perform a wide range of tasks. Large scale events such as road racing, vintage racing or karting requires dozens of volunteers while smaller events are able to function safely with just a few dedicated individuals.

Officials vary for each motorsport discipline but include stewards, course clerks, registrars, course and track marshals, turn-workers, scrutineers, timers and scorers, starters and pace car drivers. Becoming a skilled motorsport official doesn’t happen overnight but the journey is mentored and is exciting, challenging and fun. Whatever your level of talent, there is a role in motorsport officiating for just about everyone.

Our volunteers share a common bond. Whether or not they have competed in motorsport racing, they are driven by a passion for motorsports and a desire to see it succeed as a sport in BC. Many are former competitors who now wish to give back to the sport that gave them so much. Whatever the motivation, our club is proud to have some of the most talented, friendly and hard-working volunteers of any sport.
