Current Regulation

Competition numbers must be removed from the vehicle when driven on the streets. Failure to do so will lead to disciplinary actions.

Proposed Regulation

Competition numbers should be removed from the track driven vehicles when driven on public roadways. Failure to do could lead to disciplinary actions. Competitors are encouraged to remove the event numbers as soon as possible between events.

Reason for Rule Change

Most cars participating in Time Attack, Track days, HPDE and Autoslalom use temporary or reusable adhesive backed numbers. Proper installation requires a clean surface, so drivers frequently install the numbers prior to arriving at the event. Requiring the numbers to be installed and removed at the track can damage the paint finish and severely reduces the lifespan of reusable adhesive numbers. There does not appear to be any legal prohibition to having numbers on cars and having this rule in place for all puts numerous drivers in these disciplines in position for automatic disciplinary action.

Regulation as Amended and Published

Competition numbers should be removed from track-driven vehicles when operated on public roadways.
