| Reason for Rule Change | having the field stop immediately allows for a quick response by emergency vehicles who can then take a direct route to the incident. The ambulance does not respond until either the race vehicles are in the pit lane or stopped on track. By having cars proceed to pit lane, there is the potential to have a traffic jam that impedes access by emergency vehicles. |
